sheerhippo: aprettygoodstart: My other tattoo. Really. It’s not a rash or a hive or a swine flu shot gone wrong. It’s a fuchsia dot. Is there some sort of significance behind it? There sure is! Buckle up for a story. My Freshman year of high school (97-98), four guys were friends. Two of them had houses in Cape Cod, Mass. They decided that the four of them would go up to the Cape for vacation. Before the trip one of those guys (who is famous for telling nonsense stories) spun a yarn about a man dressed up in a fish costume at a gas station on Cape Cod washing windows. While he was riding past the fish man, the fish looked up, waved at him and said “Hello, Matt.” Matt responded in kind with “Hello, Fysh.” After that, the four friends begin greeting each other with “Hello, Fish!” Another of the four friends (who is famous for harebrained schemes) decided that the trip should become an annual one and that when they were all old enough to drive they would get old VW beatles in their favorite color. One picked red, another green, another yellow, and the last picked purple. These friends began referring to themselves as The Fysh. Fysh is spelled differently for no good reason at all and there is a dot over the y, like the German umlaut, also for no good reason. So as the group grew, more fysh were added, each with their own color. I transferred into my high school in Sophomore year. By that time all the normal colors were taken, so I consulted a box of crayons and chose fuchsia. Mostly because I like alliteration. (Fuchsia Fysh) Ten years later we’re all still very close friends, so about a year ago, a bunch of us who are now scattered all over the country decided to go and get dots (like the dot over the Y in fysh) with our color tattooed somewhere on our bodies. The End.
